cRAP

The other day, Weston was telling me about this rap that Jimmer Fredette's brother, TJ, wrote for the NCAA tournament. I asked, "Is is good?" To which Weston gave me a quizzical look and replied, "I don't really know." Not because he hadn't listened to it yet, but because we were both confused as to what, exactly, makes a rap song "good."

I've never really been a fan of rap music. I don't really understand how someone saying a bunch of rhyming words really fast with a beat and melody in the background qualifies as talented. I'm pretty positive that anyone who has the gift of speech could do that. Also, I feel like every time I hear a rap song, my ears are violated with a barrage of swear words and innappropriate/demeaning phrases. Why on earth would anyone want to listen to that? I feel like I sound like a grandma or something, but I really just don't understand the appeal. I would much rather listen to some good ol' country music. I realize that this isn't the most popular genre of music either, but, come on, the worst you're gonna hear in a country song is a "hell" or a few verses about drinkin' a cold beer. I'm ok with that, and I feel like if I have the country station on in the car, my children aren't going learn about the birds and the bees from a song.

Anyway, happy St. Patrick's day! The much-anticipated rodeo post will be up tomorrow. Be excited! :o)

  1. I'm right there with ya! If it doesn't play on the country station or if they don't sing it on Glee, I'm pretty much unaware of it. HOWEVER...Shera and I were reminiscing about a very inappropriate song that we used to listen to in high school. I distinctly remember sitting in the office in your house and trying to write down and memorize all of the words to it. Do you remember? The big question is, WHAT WERE WE THINKING?! Seriously, when I think about the words to that song now, it's pretty nasty. I don't remember the name of the song, and I'm certainly not going to put any of the words on your blog! Haha!
