Do you guys have places you have to go to run errands that you just dread? Mine is the post office. Being a photographer, I have the wonderful opportunity of going to the post office to mail off disks of pictures quite often. Boy, do I look forward to these trips! There's just nothing like waiting in line for half an hour (or more) with a one-year-old, watching one postal worker help people as slowly as humanly possible. What a great way to spend an afternoon.
A couple days ago, while waiting in a particularly long line, I got talking to a highschool kid and his dad who were a couple people in front of me in line. All they wanted to do was pick up a package, so I suggested they just go up and ask. This is how the conversation went:
Kid: Is there anywhere to just pick up a package?
Postal Worker: Well, sometimes someone will walk up and ask if there is anyone here who is just picking something up, but unless he does that you just need to wait in line.
Kid: Um, ok. Could you maybe let him know that there is someone here just picking something up?
Postal Worker: You'll just have to wait in line.
The kid got back in line, and about 20 minutes later he and his dad were finally the next people to be helped. Just then we hear, "Is anyone here just to pick up a package?"
Nice. Way to be efficient, post office.
In other news, it's my mom's birthday today so the little man wanted to give her a shout out.
