The almost date night

Yesterday, Weston spontaneously asked me if I wanted to go see a movie. It was too cute, and I am not one to turn down a date night, so I got our amazing friends to come babysit last minute. I was so excited about our night out and was looking forward to it all day. You see, we don't go on dates very often for several reasons: 1) no money 2) we feel bad asking people to babysit 3) no money and 4) no money. It was really kind of pathetic how excited I was. You would have thought we were in high school or something.
Anyway, I got all dolled up (well, I did my hair, put make up on, and got dressed), fed Jackson, and put him to bed. Our friends came over, and we were free! Or so we thought. We got on the freeway and almost instantly hit massive amounts of traffic. I am one of those people who has to be ten minutes early for everything so I automatically started stressing out and yelling at the drivers around us (I may or may not have slight road rage). We finally arrived at the theater about 40 minutes before our movie was supposed to start so I was feeling good! And then we pulled into the parking garage. The theater that we were going to is part of a large, outdoor shopping mall with a lot of restaurants and shops. Apparently, the nice weather made the entire population of Houston want to go out on the town because it was PACKED! When we pulled into the garage we were behind about 549827465 other cars all looking for a place to park. Well that just wasn't going to work for me, so I pulled a fast one and drove the wrong way down an aisle of cars and got in front of everyone (yes, I am the driver in our relationship. I have control issues). Unfortunately, my parking lot prowess was no match for the 67256395748 other movie-goers, and after driving around for about 20 minutes, we finally admitted defeat and decided to go home.
On the drive home, I told Weston that this experience pretty much sums up why I never ever ever want to live in a big city. I can almost guarantee with 100% certainty that we would never be prevented from going to see a movie because we couldn't find a parking spot if we lived in the suburbs. Just sayin'.
So, date night was a bust. Foiled by immensely populated big city. *sigh* Maybe next month.

  2. Big cities are much more fun if you take public transportation. :)

  3. GAHHH! Don't you hate that? You get so excited for one (just ONE!) night of relaxation and spontaneity and end up totally pissed off and disappointed. It's awful! Happened to us once or twice...
